[URPE] microfinance research

I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on resources for critical analysis of microfinance. I am currently working on a research project where a 'microlender' is managing public funds that subsidize an industry.  The funds are being used for low wage workers who are misclassified.

Is anyone familiar with how microfinance agencies are regulated and or have any experience with microfinance organizations that receive public money?
