Join the nation-wide discussion on the role of job creation in economic
recovery with James Spletzer, senior research economist at the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics, as he presents a lecture titled, “Are the
New Jobs Good Jobs?”
The lecture is part of SCEPA's 2010 Spring Seminar Series, "The Future
of Jobs: Facts, Fantasies, and Policy Options." Sponsored by the Bernard
Schwartz Center for Economic Policy Analysis and the Department of
Economics at The New School for Social Research, the series hosts highly
respected experts in the field of economics from government, academia,
international organizations and foundations to discuss their analysis of
the recession and policy proposals for job creation.

Speaker Bio:
Jim Spletzer received his Bachelor's degree in economics and
mathematics from Knox College in 1985, and his Ph.D. in economics from
Northwestern University in 1990. He joined the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics in 1990 as a research economist, and became the Director of
Research for the Office of Employment and Unemployment Statistics in
2001. He has published widely on many topics such as the measurement of
wage trends, gross job flows, and employer-provided training, and is a
co-editor of the book "The Creation and Analysis of Employer-Employee
Matched Data." His current research interestsare employment dynamics,
establishment survival, and the applications of linked employer-employee
data.
