Un cable de Reuters del 16 de mayo de 2008, reenviado a la lista
Marxmail por Walter Lippmann, comenta que Venezuela y Brasil planean
una acería conjunta. Producirá 1,5 millón de toneladas al año. La
levantarán en conjunto el estado venezolano y la firma brasileña
Andrade Gutierres. La nueva acería complementará la producción de
SIdor, y la producción total de acero venezolano pasará a 6 millones
de toneladas al año.

Mientras tanto, la Argentina... debate si seremos rurales o no.

 Venezuela and Brazil plan joint steel plant

 CARACAS: Venezuela plans to build a 1.5 million tonne per year steel
 plant with the help of a Brazilian company, the government said on
 Thursday.

 Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez signed a letter of understanding
 with Brazilian construction company Andrade Gutierrez to build the
 plant in the southern state of Bolivar, the government said in a
 statement.

 The new plant will complement production at the recently nationalised
 Sidor complex on Venezuela's Orinoco river and will bring national
 steel production to 6 million tonnes annually, the government said.

 Growing demand for steel from emerging powerhouses like China and
 India has tightened supply for the metal used in everything from
 knives to skyscrapers.
