Israel’s sense of exceptionalism is a bone that sticks in the throat
of modern society. Israel’s arrogant defiance of all standards of
civilization for the past 60 years has inevitably led to the collapse
of the ideals that the world has so uselessly espoused these past years.
Conflict resolution, multiculturalism, democratization, inter-faith
dialogue and so on and so forth do not mean anything to Israel and her
supporters. How then can they be of use to the rest of the world?
With the big powers doing nothing, with shameless Arab leaders content
in their humiliation and with Pope Benedict XVI’s plea ringing like a
cry in the wilderness, a question comes to mind: Where are the ideals
the world so hypocritically espoused amid Israel’s exceptionalism?
Where is Barack Obama? Where’s Obama’s promise of change in America
and the world in the face of Israel’s onslaught on Gaza? If Obama’s
silence over the massacre of Palestinians by the Israeli is any
indication, it could only mean that the United States has become
complicit with the war to exterminate a people. The silence of Obama
shows how US foreign policy in the Middle East will be held hostage by
Israel in the years to come. How can four Israeli deaths justify the
massacre of hundreds of Palestinians and the wounding of many more,
and the destruction of communities in Gaza?
With Israel playing Goliath to Gaza, how can the Israeli be the
victims and the Palestinians the culprits? How can the world media be
so unfair? How can world leaders be so complicit with Israel? How can
people be so heartless doing nothing to stop the acts of terrorism
being perpetrated by Israel on the Palestinian people?
