The "Rwandan Patriotic Army" that invaded Rwanda in 1990 and conquered it in 1994 was itself formed from Rwandan Tutsi exiles in the Ugandan army. Paul Kagame, previously a high official in the Ugandan military, was getting military training in the U.S. when he returned to Uganda and Rwanda to lead the RPA's assault after the original leader was killed in action.
