International Womens day commemorated in Udaipur

I am really gratelful for the comments of Amit and Rajesh ( see below ) , more so because they contradict each other and Rajesh in fact has answered Amits queries for me, more effective than I could have answered them myself . I will therefore stick to the unanswered questions .

1. Is combating AIDs a forgotten issue ?

 No it is not

2. Then why not sex education in schools ?

For the moment, was not sex and reproduction being taught in the school in biology class and other dimensions of man women relations in the shpere of literature for instance ? What is new then ? Ie what is the problem and what is the solution propposed ?

-- Are we saying the major problem at the school level ie in Standard 6 is spread of AIDS ? Hence need to teach how to use the condom so as to have safe sex ?

-- Are we saying that children at the age of ten - twelve need to be sexually liberated and hence need to learn the value of the condom and then can experiment with sex in manner which will enhance thier creative abilities ?

Proposition -- girls need to be informed about what constitutes sexual molestation !!

Yes

-- somebody just told me that when she was young , told her to inform them just when people touched her in areas which has been broadly described by them

( the full swim suit area - not the bikini type ) .. That was enough to keep both the parent and child informed about sexual violation till the child was old enough to learn more .

What does the child do with the sexual information imparted , inform the teacher , principal , parents ?

What happens when a teacher happens to sexually violate the child ?

What happens when the teacher itself misuses the sex education class and or is not emotionally equipped to deal with the issues coming up ?

--- hence where will sex education lead to in the absence of a mechanism to deal with the queries that are being raised .

Another set of questions

- Did the Patan rape case happen because the girl was inadequately sexually educated ?

- What are the lady teachers who were cohorting with the male teachers doing with their knowledge of menstrual cycles etc ?

Now coming briefly to the topic of International womens day .

The Bajrang Dal and the Al Qaeda uphold a value system with respect to women that will keep them in the dark ages .

- Will upholding patriachal values like pati parmeshwar help women to prepare themselves for the big bad world ?

- My cousins etc told my wife that when travelling in bus in Mumbai , she should keep and open safety pin handy ....

And another advised her and my the daughter to kick the man in you know where ... !!!

Perhaps such solutions were taught by the Bajrang dal and the Al Qaeda ? What do you say Amit ?

Have circulated on this list serve the first womens declaration after the French revolution . So frightened were men of womens power that they banned womens associations !!! Men are not frightened any more, womens morals down into the morass . Thanks to the condom and and sexually enticing ads about underwear etc.... Having women with lust in their eyes, is the place to be !!!!

Another question

- When women and men have free sex in the current society, who bears the brunt of the result if the condom does not work ? Also if the women does not want to resort to abortion .... and why abortion as the price to pay for a one night stand ?

and finally

- another close friend of mine told me about what happens to educated girls ... ie they dont reach the exalted places in the same numbers as the men .. a fact echoed by my daughter in her debate speech which I circulated .

To the last I pose the question

- What are the conditions when women can indeed take thier rightful position as equal partners in todays society ... Certainly sex education is not the only ingredient that needs to served up

Is this all that the Government in its wisdom could come up with !!!!

Need to go back a long way to understand with what objective womens day was first commemorated .

These issues were discussed in depth in the meeting called by All India Mahila Sanskritk Sanghatan in Udaipur ....

Dear all,

I have been following the email crusade being run by viren on this list serve and could not help but notice the following two points that viren wants the world to agree with.

who does viren work for. looks like the bajrang dal to me. I know this will get me tons of hate mail, but I have known viren (online only unfortunately) for 6-7 years and he used to run a crusade against the backward philosophy of the communal organizations. now perhaps viren would care to explain why is he peddling the bajrang dal's (or for that matter the al qaueda's) agenda here .

read # 9 point below. thats a hoot. I wonder what the people who work for aids education have to say about this. I am assuming working for eradication of aids is no more important enough.

6. Ban vulgar posters, advertisements, particularly around the educational institutions.

9. Stop 'sex education', ban advertisements of AIDS control and demonstration in Red Ribbon Express, which kindle vulgar motives among students.

I appreciate the movement by Viren on GUjarat issues,

Viren and others are flagging Gujarat for Patan and Orissa for sambhalpur. Simialr cases happened in Pune few days after Patana, . Even other metros have the cases of Womern harassment/molestation and hurting/killing elderly people. These cases far exceeds the Patan+sambhalpur incidents.

Somewhere there is a level of insensitivity when it happens in places other than Gujarat. "NCW -the protector of women in Gujarat". It is civil society and not commissions that are responsible for reponsible social behaviors.

Let us move on. Gujarat is doing well. I see targetting Gujrata as a case of negative bias.

  Thanks

  Rajesh
