Press Release: US Campaign Condemns Biased Congressional Resolution on
Gaza; Calls on Congress to Cut Off Military Aid to Israel

Washington, DC (March 5)-The US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation
condemned today a one-sided, biased Congressional resolution
concerning the situation in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian Gaza
Strip and called on Congress to cut off military aid to Israel for its
ongoing violations of the U.S. Arms Export Control and Foreign
Assistance Acts.
The US Campaign is a national coalition of more than 250 organizations
working to change U.S. policy toward Israel/Palestine to support human
rights, international law, and equality for all.
The House of Representatives passed today by a vote of 404-1
H.Res.951, condemning Palestinian rocket fire into Israel. The
biased, one-sided resolution fails to mention Israel's far more deadly
attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which have killed at least
117 Palestinians, more than half of whom were civilians and 22 of whom
were children, since last Wednesday. In the same period of time,
Palestinian rocket fire killed one Israeli civilian. The US Campaign
to End the Israeli Occupation condemns all attacks on civilians.
In addition, the resolution fails to mention Israel's ongoing illegal
collective punishment of the residents of the Gaza Strip who are
denied access to supplies of electricity, food, medicine, and clean
water by Israel's siege.
Concurrently, the US Campaign is collecting endorsements for a sign-on
letter to the Appropriations Subcommittees on State, Foreign
Operations, and Related Programs calling on the subcommittees to cut
off military aid to Israel for its ongoing violations of the U.S. Arms
Export Control and Foreign Assistance Acts. President Bush has
requested $2.55 billion in military aid for Israel in FY2009 as the
first installment of a ten-year memorandum of understanding to
increase military aid to Israel by 25%, totaling $30 billion over the
next decade.
To date, 20 national organizations, including the American Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee, Jewish Voice for Peace, the Green Party
of the United States, and United for Peace and Justice, and nearly 200
local organizations from 34 states plus the District of Columbia and
groups of U.S. citizens abroad have endorsed the letter. To view the
letter and up-to-date list of endorsing organizations, please click

"It is unconscionably biased and one-sided for the House of
Representatives to pass a resolution condemning Palestinian rocket
fire into Israel, while turning a blind eye to Israel's far deadlier
attacks on Palestinian civilians with weapons provided by the United
States and paid for with our taxpayer dollars. The United States
should be condemning Israel's human rights abuses and war crimes
against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. Congress needs to
apply U.S. law by sanctioning Israel and cutting off military aid to
it as a result of its egregious human rights abuses," stated Josh
Ruebner, National Advocacy Director of the US Campaign to End the
Israeli Occupation.
