Letter: Roadside bombs target military
Dear Editor,
It occurs to me that your headline "Military targets roadside bombs" [16
January, front page] was backwards.
For Canadians in Afghanistan, roadside bombs are by far the most
exacting tactic used by insurgents. Of the 78 Canadian deaths in
Afghanistan, only eight have been killed in clear-cut exchanges of fire
with insurgents, while 47 have been killed by roadside and vehicle-borne
IEDs. 26 of the last 28 combat deaths have been the result of IEDs. In
fact, a Canadian soldier has not been killed by a firefight since
October 2006.
I'd think your headline would be more accurately stated: Roadside bombs
target military.
