CNN also does GREAT stories on the life of Jesus, the authenticity of
the Turin shroud, the Da Vinci code, Noah's Ark, archaeological
discoveries in Israel, weapons of mass destruction (in name your
regime-change regime), the 'reconstruction' of Iraq and Afghanistan,
etc. etc.

I would interpret this article in one of two ways, probably
vacillating because apparently these 'authorities' know about as much
as I do. That is because collective markets and all their inside
players play inside to make money but they do not form a collective
consciousness.
One, that given current production methods and known reserves, oil
production really is due to peak (while consumption continues to
grow), and that is a crisis.

Two, the usual market insider speculators have nothing else left to
bet on (even the yen carry trades are coming to an end). The
Greenspan-Bernanke Bubble really hasn't popped yet, and so they are
piling into speculation on the price of oil and gas and their
production.

Of course it could be quite a bit of both. I mean, if you THINK you
know peak oil is coming, why not leverage a bet on the future price of
oil and ride that pony til she drops?
