Please share this as widely as possible!
Dear James M,

On April 14th of this year, some 1,400 events calling for action to
address the global warming crisis took place throughout the country. In
all 50 states, people responded to the initiative of the Step It Up
campaign, part of the growing movement to pressure our government to take
action now, before it is too late.

Step It Up 2

is about to take place. This Saturday, Nov. 3rd, people will again gather
in sites around the country demanding action from our elected
representatives. In fact, thousands of invitations to elected officials
have gone out, urging their participation in this important day of action.

With the Nov. 3rd day of action, Step It Up 2 is promoting what they call
the 1 Sky priorities:

Green Jobs Now: 5 Million green jobs conserving 20% of our energy by 2015.

Cut Carbon 80% by 2050: Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at
least 30% by 2020, and 80% by 2050.
No New Coal: A moratorium on new coal-fired power plants.
United for Peace and Justice encourages you to get involved in the local
actions on Nov. 3rd, just as we support other initiatives addressing the
climate crisis. And we hope you will take this as an opportunity to make
the links between global warming and the war in Iraq and militarism more
generally. As we said in our support for the recent No War, No Warming
actions:

We are all fully aware that the Iraq w-a-r is all about o-i-l. The U.S.'s
fossil fuel addiction is responsible for dangerous global warming that is
disrupting the earth's climate. And as the climate crisis deepens, it
could lead to greater conflict and war over increasingly scarce fossil
fuel and water resources. The connections are clear, as is the urgent need
for stepping up our activism on both of these interrelated fronts.

Nov. 3rd is another opportunity to Step It Up, another chance to make the
connections.

Peace,
