Declare YOUR Energy Independence
Dear James,

The polls are out, and it's clear you're not happy with Congress. Well,
neither are we, particularly with a couple of key Committee Chairmen:
Representative John Dingell (D-MI) and Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA).

Reps. Dingell and Boucher have proven that they care more about protecting
the auto and coal industries in their home districts than they do about
protecting the planet from global warming. In fact, they want to remove
new regulations at the state and federal level, and take away the EPA's
ability to regulate global warming pollution.

Can you believe it?

Tomorrow is Independence Day, so what better way to celebrate than to
declare energy independence? Congress shouldn't just be watching the
global warming fireworks display - floods, droughts, severe storms - they
should be doing something about it.

Consider this:
The number of the most dangerous hurricanes - categories 4 and 5 - has
almost doubled in the last 30 years.

According to the world's leading scientists, unchecked global warming will
threaten water supplies for billions of people and cause extinction of up
to 40% of all species.

President Bush has failed to lead us in the right direction. Fortunately,
Congress has the opportunity to lead the way.
