Global Write-A-Thon for Leonard Peltier
Save the Date: December 1st-10th, 2007
December 10th is International Human Rights Day.

The date was chosen to honor the United Nations General Assembly's
adoption
and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of
Human
Rights, the first global enunciation of human rights.
(See: <http://users.skynet.be/kola/udhr.htm>
http://users.skynet.be/kola/udhr.htm )

The commemoration was established in 1950, when the General Assembly
invited
all states and interested organizations to celebrate the day as they saw
fit. The day is a high point in the calendar of U.N. headquarters in New
York City, and is normally marked by both high-level political conferences
and meetings and by cultural events and exhibitions dealing with human
rights issues. In addition, it is traditionally on December 10 that the
five-yearly United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights is awarded.

Many governmental and nongovernmental organizations active in the human
rights field also schedule special events to commemorate the day. We
celebrate Human Rights day because there are many people who do not have
the
rights granted to them. This day was declared so that all of us can become
aware of our rights and create an awareness among others, of people who
are
deprived of their rights.

To mark this day, join people all around the world and participate in our
second Global Write-A-Thon for Leonard Peltier.

This year, we will concentrate on the release of the documents that the
FBI
are still withholding. Our Write-A-Thon is directed at Senator Patrick
Leahy, the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

What's a "Write-A-Thon"?Simply put: a "writing marathon". Or write a ton
of
letters... :-)

Each year, Amnesty International organizes a Write-A-Thon for December
10th.
This is where we found our inspiration. Their slogan is "Write = Might".
This is oh so very true! (Thank you Amnesty International) Your letters
are
the watchdogs, putting perpetrators of abuse on notice. Your letters are
the
light that shines through the despair prisoners of conscience & political
prisoners face on a daily basis. Your letters are tools of freedom, paving
the way for the abused and battered to finally find justice & freedom.

Participation is easy! You can either pledge to write a letter by
yourself,
or, you can plan a letter writing event, at your home, school, church or
even at your local cafe. You can hold your event, and send your letter(s)
anytime from December 1-10, 2007. To make it even easier, we are providing
you with a sample letter that you can print out. You can download the

National Day of Mourning Statement, by Leonard Peltier November 22, 2007

The Leonard Peltier Defense kindly requests that you please forward this
announcement in its entirety, please do not modify, edit, remove or add to
this announcement.
Respectfully,
Leonard Peltier Defense Committee

Thank You United American Indians of New England ( LPSG )

On behalf of Leonard Peltier and the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, we
would like to thank the United American Indians of New England, LPSG for
their continued support and solidarity. This year's National Day of
Mourning
is dedicated to Leonard Peltier. Since 1970, hundreds of other Native
Americans from across the country and their non-Native allies have been
converging on Plymouth Harbor to let people know that Thanksgiving is a"
Day
of Mourning" that marks the genocide of thousands of Native Americans, the
theft of Native Lands and the assault on Native Cultures. Today, Thursday,
November 22, 2007 hundreds of people will gather and march on Plymouth
Harbor and join in solidarity as various tribal elders and members speak
of
the importance of Unity among all Indigenous Peoples. Elder Bert Waters
will
read the following statement from Leonard Peltier:

National Day of Mourning Statement from Leonard Peltier:

November 22, 2007
Greetings my Relations,
As I sit here in my cell, thinking about you, and gathering my thoughts, I
can't help but appreciate you remembering me.
I was told just the other day that people in Oklahoma protested Oklahoma's
100 year celebration of its statehood. They protested or demonstrated and
also celebrated their 100 years of survival of an adversed government that
has violated all treaties and has gained control of most of their land. I
support those Indian people. It also brings to mind those who- like
Columbus
came and did the same, take our lands, and also what has happened to all
people all over the world- the Jews, the Palestians, as well as other
indigenous countries and peoples. Yet I have to say that America shares
most
of the responsibility to do the right thing.

What happened to the teachings or commandments of:
Thou shall not lie
Thou shall not kill
Thou shall not steal
I can't remember all the commandments but what I do know is
They have lied
They have killed
They have stolen
They have mistreated our Mother- our Mother Earth, our rivers, our land,
the
air we breathe and the water we drink.
I consider global warming the wrong that has been done to our people. Even
the Mexican people state in their own way, "We did not cross the border,
the
border crossed us". The Mexican people are Indian people. I have no doubt
the Indian people of South America, North America, Central American will
join in unison to make all the America's better.
A circle of Life is what dictates that the earth shall renew itself every
spring. We have said this for generations. Go back and read our Elders
sayings as we have been trying to tell Europeans that came here- to honor
our traditional ways and to honor our Mother Earth and keep the Circle of
Life.

Chief Seattle said:
"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound
together. All things connect."
Chief Seattle, 1855
This is just one of the many quotations from our ancestors.
Now today we have global warming. We take no pride of solace in saying "
We
told you so." But we do hope that the people of Europe and all around the
world will start looking at the Native way of life. Our Elders teach us
that
when we take from this earth, we must give back.
There is no greater resource on the face of this earth than our children.
America is leading in the wrongful influence of our youth. Wrong medicine
is
being offered to our youth, commonly called alcohol and drugs. It is up to
each one of us, to get involved and make a difference in a positive way.
It
is time to give back to our children. I encourage each of you to take it
upon yourself to stand up and find someway to help our youth. The youth of
the world are in jeopardy; let us not rob future generations of their
future.
The greatest symbol of the Creator is the circle. I encourage each of you
to
make the circle complete- the sacred cycle of the family, the cycle of the
seasons, your personal cycle of life make them as strong as possible
spiritually, mentally and physically. Stay strong and never, never give
up.
I can not say it enough or express my appreciation to each of you how much
I
appreciate those of you who came here today to remember me and to listen
to
what this prisoner has to say.
Again I simply say,

Thank you
In the Spirit of Crazy Horse,
Leonard Peltier

A Message from Leonard Peltier:

To LPDC Supporters,

Delaney Bruce, a former LPDC Committee member from 2003, and the website
FreePeltierNow, ARE NOT affiliated with the LPDC, nor does she have the
authority to represent me and /or the LPDC. I am requesting that Delaney
Bruce, and the Friends of Peltier affiliated with the Free PeltierNow
website, CEASE AND DESIST IMMEDIATELY in making unauthorized statements,
decisions and unwarranted representation on my behalf.

Leonard Peltier

A message from LPDC Committee:

For quite some time there have been many messages, statements and news
items
circulated through a variety of sources pertaining to Leonard Peltier.
While
we feel that this is good for the most part, it has become necessary to
issue this statement concerning unauthorized, misleading or
unrepresentative
statements on the web.

In February 2007, a website appeared called FreePeltierNow. This website
is
NOT affiliated or authorized by the LPDC, nor is it the official LPDC
website. Our website address remains as <http://www.leonardpeltier.net/>
http://www.leonardpeltier.net/.

This newly created website, FreePeltierNow has caused alot of confusion
among the LPDC supporters. The person managing this site, Delaney Bruce
appears to have the names and email addresses of our supporters from the
LPDC list serve. They have been emailing the LPDC supporters, with their
own
website info and updates. The LPDC DID NOT release, authorize the use of,
or
sell the LPDC email addresses and/or listserv to anyone, at any time.
Hundreds of our supporters suddenly starting receiving emails, from the
FreePeltierNow listserv in February 2007, that have NEVER signed up for
their updates or info.
How could they, it was a brand new website?

Many of the official emails that were generated from the LPDC, have been
forwarded to their lists and have been edited or modified, prior to
sending.
Even Leonard's own words have been changed by them in these emails.

The person behind the FreePeltierNow website, Delaney Bruce is a former
committee member for the LPDC and absolutely does not represent Leonard
Peltier or the LPDC. She has no authorization to be continuing to
represent
Leonard Peltier in anyway. There are many reasons why Delaney Bruce no
longer represents Leonard Peltier or the LPDC, her prior history has been
that of creating dissention, miscommunication and alienating our
supporters.

Delany Bruce is not familiar with our ongoing, day to day work for Leonard
Peltier:

She has NO communication from Leonard and/or the LPDC

She is not familiar with the team players. At times she sends out
statements
that imply that Leonard and/or the LPDC endorse certain individuals,
organizations or group affiliations. In most cases, the statements
provided
are inaccurate and the LPDC is not in any way affiliated with, support or
endorse what is being implicated in her statements.

The website and her work are unsolicited by Leonard Peltier and the LPDC

We always appreciate your continued support for Leonard Peltier and the
LPDC.
