The AFNQL and QNW will be addressing CRTC to call Radio-Canada to order

WENDAKE, Sept. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec
and Labrador (AFNQL) and Quebec Native Women (QNW) denounces the racist
remarks broadcasted by Radio-Canada on Sunday September 25th within the
context of a Program called "Tout le monde en parle". "The quest for
audience ratings does not justify the broadcasting of such racist
remarks on the air of Canada's state television." It is in those terms
that the Regional Chief of the AFNQL, Mr. Ghislain Picard, and QNW's
President, Ms. Ellen Gabriel, addresses the Martin government, the
federal minister of Heritage Canada and the directorship of
Radio-Canada, following the broadcasting of the program called "Tout le
monde en parle", on September 25th. As Ms. Gabriel explained, these kind
of statements promote racist attitudes in a time when most members of
society are trying to eliminate such toxic perspectives. "This archaic
attitude has undermined the progress of sensitization of the Quebecois
people in regard to Aboriginal people." According to Chief Picard, the
Crown Corporation, its political officials and its directorship show a
great deal of negligence by allowing the broadcasting of racist remarks.
The AFNQL and QNW intends to address the CRTC in order to call to order
Radio-Canada and its directorship as a whole.

The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador is the regional
organization which represents the Chiefs of the First Nations of Quebec
and Labrador.

Quebec Native Women is an organism who advocates for the rights of
Aboriginal women.
