Dear Hong Cong Thuy,

Your post has been sent on to a number of us by Mark Solomon. I in turn will send it widely to friends of Vietnam here in the US. This note from
me is a personal one, as I am not an official spokesperson for the groups I work with, but I think I probably reflect the thinking of almost everyone
here who is getting a copy.

It is deeply moving to have this sense of shared suffering between our peoples, to know of your concern. Few nations in history have suffered
more heavily than Vietnam. I remember with deep emotion my own visits to Vietnam. I know also that many of those who will see your post were
involved in the movement to end the American invasion of Vietnam, and have strong hopes for the continued development of Vietnam in peace.
Thank you for thinking of the people now suffering in the Southern states.

Peace,
David McReynolds

Member, National Committee Socialist Party USA

Dear Friends,
With deep concern and great sadness, we have followed the terrible news about Hurricane Katrina and the storm’s aftermath in the southern parts of the United States, especially the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, which have caused huge losses of human life and vast property damage to the people of that region.
We at the Vietnam-USA Society wish to convey to you, and through you to the American families and individuals who are enduring these losses, our deepest sympathy. We believe that strong community spirit and courage will help the American people to overcome and recover from the aftermath caused by Hurricane Katrina, one of the worst natural disasters America has faced in its history.
Yours in solidarity,
The Vietnam-USA Society
