I'm amazed how some so-called activists are so eager to spit out insults at
the first opportunity. Your analogy misrepresents my argument. The correct
analogy is that of a physician who is explaining to me why I have a
cold--because of a virus--something that virtually everbody already knows
about. Most people outside of the US already know the banality of American
patriotism--so, what's the point of repeating it to us non Americans? That
was my question to Yoshie.
I made my comment because I know Geofrey White--I know his politics--I've
spent four years in the East West Center as a scholarship grantee (for my
Ph.D). White was not illustrating Chomsky's point. White cited Chomsky
precisely to dismiss him, and develop his own thesis. This should be obvious
to anyone who knows how to read. There is something insidiously rightwing
about White's argument--but to discern this you'd have to read him
critically enough. Floro
