the questions of our activism, wonder about the Mine Mill roots of our union

      Dear Brother Gray,

Laura and I are back from vacation and I've updated our Local 937
homepage for January 2004. http://www.uswa937.org/index.htm. Please look at
it, proof read it (you know I never find all the errors), let me know what i
missed so I can fix it and send me your ideas about what we ought to put up
for February.

We plan to do a snail mail survey of local 937 members and retirees
related to contract issues in February... Ken Larkin has developed some base
questions from his classes at Linden Hall and we would certainly appreciate
any suggestions for this project you might have as well.

Our trip to South Carolina was a good respite from everything about
work: The weather was great, caught some fish, made my 10 year visits with
relatives, and ate far too much southern food for my formerly trim figure.
Didn't do a lick of work related anything... but I did visit some relatives
from a shutdown textile mill, read about the loss of good maufacturing jobs
in South Carolina on a daily basis in the "STATE" newsparper - similar to
the AZ Republic - and made note of a bunch of closed Steel Mills driving
though Carolina and Alabama and Mississippi. The only places we went though
where the work news wasn't bad seemed to be in Texas oil towns... shouldn't
have been a surprise.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Dick Gephardt running close to the
front with Wes Clark in South Carolina and well in front of Howard Dean
according to many of the talking heads on local TV. And, even my soft core
republican relatives were ready to walk away from george dubya...

Anyway, we are glad to be back to Arizona... the sum of all
the news primed us to get back to work... hope to see you soon,

      Sincerely, Bill Hogan
      Local 937 President
