HALIFAX - With families at the dockside, and protesters at the gates, the
Canadian destroyer Iroquois steamed for the so-called war on terrorism on
Monday morning, its second trip to the Arabian Sea in a year.

The six-month deployment for the ship and its crew of 265 comes about five
months ahead of schedule.
HMCS Iroquois
The Iroquois returned from its last tour with Operation Apollo in April, and
hadn't been set for another trip until July.
Despite receiving the orders to set sail only 10 days ago, ship commander
Capt. Paul Maddison says his crew is ready.
The Iroquois has borrowed some specialists from its sister ship, HMCS
Athabaskan and will carry a Sea King helicopter detachment originally slated
to sail on another ship.
Canada has assumed command of a multinational fleet in the Arabian Sea. The
Iroquois will be the command ship when it arrives in about two weeks.
Families of the crew waved goodbye from dockside as the ship slipped past
the wharf.
Before the ship set sail, about 30 anti-war protesters demonstrated at the
gates to the naval dockyard.
