Appreciate the thoughful replies by both Mark and Mac. I hope no one thinks
I am into conspiracy theories. My whole point, perhaps imperfectly stated,
is not a specific "theory", but that we can not operate on the premise that
this whole shebang is a "response." That there is a conspiracy I think is
irrefutable. That's not important in a way we should wrap ourselves around
any axles over. It's important because we can not stand by and watch a
bunch of false premises take root in this discussion. "Response" is a
seriously false, and seriously misleading, premise. The exact nature of the
conspiracy is only somewhat important. What's important is figuring out (1)
what are the motives and plans that are already in motion, (2) what are the
variables these actions will encounter, (3) how will these collide, (4) what
does that mean in terms of the approaching conjuncture? Every national and
some non-national actors across the globe right now are potential wild
cards, especially with bro Bush choosing Afghanistan of all places. This is
very dangerous stuff, but then I suppose we all knew that the end of
imperialism (which I suspect this augers, with both hope and trepidation)
would involve some pretty dangerous straits. For me, the queston always
remains Lenin's basic: What is to be done?

And I admit that sometimes my screeds are deliberately provocative. How
else can I provoke my friends into teaching me? (-:

Comradely to all,

Stan
