Except that, frugality, austerity, is not exactly, are at least arguably not 
at all what Marx had in mind.  The process Marx envisioned included the 
creation of more needs in human beings, along with the ability to satisfy 
this multiplication of needs-- in fact rather than an "austerity" of needs, 
Marx's notion, based on the Hegelian connection between need and potential, 
is perhaps close to Fourier's conception of attractions-- attractions being 
proportionate to destinies.

And... Marxism has nothing in common with social contract theories.
