The Centre for Civil Society at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, 
presents another monthly Wolpe Lecture:

A Zimbabwean educated at Oxford and presently Professor at King’s 
College, University of London, Callinicos has authored more than two 
dozen major books, including Southern Africa after Soweto, Southern 
Africa after Zimbabwe, South Africa between reform and revolution, 
Between apartheid and capitalism – and, more recently, Social theory, 
Equality, Against the Third Way, An anti-capitalist manifesto, New 
mandarins of American power, and The resources of critique. A leader of 
the Socialist Workers Party, he is one of the world’s most 
highly-regarded left intellectuals, and a formidable (comradely) critic 
of social movement politics.

Trevor Ngwane - co-star of the film Two Trevors go to Washington (about 
the rise of the global justice movement in 2000) - will be the 
respondent. On leave as secretary of the Soweto Electricity Crisis 
Committee, Ngwane is completing his masters degree at CCS, and recently 
presented at a conference in Korea on Marxism and the 
Alter-Globalisation Movement.
