It's not so much a 1917-paradigm - it's more a question of why should we 
make the same mistakes over and over again. Marxists try to learn from 
history. Kautsky's trajectory was a tragedy, rooted in certain 
fundamental weaknesses in his theory - a 21st century retread would be 
more a farce.
