In all the examples you cite, the ruling class did not transform itself, it 
was transformed from without,  by forces external to it.  The US South's 
slavocracy was shattered and then "transformed" and reconstituted as the 
planter class  by the Civil War, and the abandonment of Reconstruction. 
[And this wasn't just the wish of Wall Street and finance capital.  The role 
of the Northern industrial/commercial capitalists in this process is pretty 
sickening, particularly that of the Pennsylvania Railroad].
