Of course we would share beers, and rides on locomotives... and Malbecs, and
steaks-- Argentinian... and I hope we would argue with each other over who
gets the pleasure of paying for both... because we are who we are-- because
when and while we argue about most things, still if somebody says.... "As a
humanitarian effort, the UN should sponsor a military mission to overthrow
the government of Burma so that typhoon relief for the population can be
more effective".... we both put down our glasses and pick our knives and say
"No way."
And even when you say that I don't know a whit about what's going on in the
world, and I think you can't tell your ass from you elbow when it comes to
how capitalism actually operates in this modern world, and that you really
need to look a bit more closely at how Brazilian capitalism, and Mercosur,
actually function, that doesn't mean that either one of us thinks the
other is part of a Washington Consensus.
Something else we share-- recognition that women are on to us-- that we
males count on their willingness, eagerness to be deceived. If we didn't
lie to them, if we weren't so cute in our lying, they'd never have anything
to do with us.
We're drones comrade; basically we're here to introduce variety into the
species, to fertilize the queens, and... to take out the garbage. As I said
to my nephew, son of my sister, brother to nieces, only male offspring in a
sea of matriarchs in training, following after their grandmother, when he
was coming of age... "Never forget how good you look to them in a suit."
