Selective memory.  You need to look at the video again.  The stage is 
stacked with US flags.  It is, after all, part of the inauguration 
ceremonies.

Raising two daughters in Manhattan with Sesame Street being their show of 
choice, and Seeger being a frequent performer on the show, I allowed myself 
to be dragged innumerable times to Seeger's performances by  those two 
perfect apples of my imperfect eyes.

Everytime he sang the song, there was a US flag there.

Perhpas that explains my deep antipathy to the song--  I actually despise 
Seeger more than I hate the song-- it's just that the two are so 
inseparable.

Anyway, no accounting for taste in this world-- although there is accounting 
for patriotism and let's be clear-- that concert, with that song was 
designed and executed as a display of patriotism.

   Well, the day before yesterday was the very first time I heard this song
sung (and sung by myself) with the US flag being displayed. Actually, I 
can't
remember having seen a US flag in the n-TV video which we could enjoy on
Youtube.
