Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics. Projection of power is
all about the velocity of resupply-- look at the use Sherman made of
railroads in his campaign through the south.

US military power has been based completely on its superior logistic
capability-- its "lift, move, and deliver" capacity-- at least it was until
Rummy decided such massive capability was no longer needed in the modern
era. And the result of that bold new direction in military thought? .....
after about 3 weeks in Iraq in 2003, the columns moving north to Baghdad had
depleted their food, water, and munitions supplies and were in some trouble.

I think it was Sherman also who said that the actual fighting was less
difficult to manage than the preparation.

For all that, nothing matches in difficulty executing an orderly
disengagement--something else Rum-dummy and company never consider(ed).
Morons and murderers with portfolios.
