No Paula, you have it wrong.  The South is not "catching up" to the North. 
The North looks enviously at the prospect of  "spinning down"  to the South, 
of driving wage rates and living standards down to those levels.

Your good doctor needs to come to grips with the massive decline in per 
capita GDP in Africa over the last 40 years-- the reversal of the increments 
of medical progress made recently.

Tell you what, those who don't want to read or think love Powerpoint 
presentations.  I suggest you read back issues of the Lancet to find out 
what "progress" is being made is these critical areas of human development.
