I agree generally with Fred's points, particularly that distinction
between the question of political support (voting) for Obama and the
need for an analysis that goes beyond a class identification with
Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, etc.  Every time people have tried to
discuss or explore that question, the thread gets drawn off into the
question of whether or not to vote or to have voted Democratic....

For my own part, I expected Obama would be much more malleable on
domestic questions than foreign policy.  I never expected any serious
departure on the questions of war and peace, Israel, Latin America.
So far--partly because of my low expectations, perhaps--I am rather
surprised...and not unpleasantly.

All along, I never really thought that the prosecutions of the Bush
officials for war crimes would be anywhere on the possible agenda at
all.
