This is supposed to be "left," this braying about the need for refounding 
capitalism?

Sarkozy is an opportunist. Straight and simple.  A vituperative thug who 
imagines himself a French Nixon imaging himself as  an American De Gaulle.

  In France during this election contest against Segolene Royal, he was 
called the "American candidate," given his toadyism to the US, his 
oft-stated intentions to "revitalize" the French economy along American 
lines.

Now he smells an opportunity to enhance his own stature and that of 
"France," that is to say the French bourgeoisie, by beating the drum for 
regulation.  Big deal.
