David Thorstad writes: <<Not sure I'm being scolded by Fred for sending this
article along, or for "adding my tidbit." If the latter was meant by my
noting that Davis (whom His Hopefulness excised down to only his first name
in his autobiography) was a Communist Party member, I think that's very
relevant and interesting. So is the fact that Obama tried to hide the
fact.>>

Obama's memoirs, if I remember correctly (my copy was lost in the flood of
my house a few months back), do not personally identify people outside his
immediate family, not just this person from his childhood, but roommates,
college pals, and so on. Again --if memory serves-- Obama is quite explicit
about this in the book and the reasons for it. The memoir isn't exactly
that, but rather a reflection on a series of interconnected issues: race,
identity, colonialism and others, based on his experiences.

Also the book was written in the early 90's, long before he became "His
Hopefulness" or whatever other terms of derision Thorstad may want to apply.
Up until then he'd only been a very successful community organizer and
Harvard Law student. A lot of the details of his personal story were neither
of interest nor relevant to his subject. Thus the charge of a cover-up
recycled here from that cloacae of American journalism, the National
Enquirer, probably tell us more about the animus David Thorstad feels
towards Obama than it does about the candidate.

I'm also intrigued that of all people David Thorstad would forward charges
of "child rapist" on the basis of a fictionalized supposed autobiography
written pseudonymously and published by under-the-counter stroke-book
imprint Greenleaf Classics and never publicly acknowledged by the putative
author, only in (alleged) private unpublished recollections, the substance
of which is that the author described how a teenager (said to have been
thirteen) supposedly seduced his wife and himself, despite his usual
preference for women over 20.

The actual quotes from the supposed autobiography on which various
characterizations are based are widely available on the internet to anyone
with two fingers willing to type the name of the book "in quotes" in a
Google search field.

I thought I remembered David Thorstad having publicized quite widely and
energetically that he held views somewhat different from those who would
call what those quotes describe as child rape.

Also, requiring publicly identifying as communists those who may have played
some role in someone's childhood or adolescence seems like a strange
standard for transparency for communists to impose.

Is David concerned that the alleged communism of Obama's grandfather's
friend three decades ago might have influenced Obama's politics today? I
certainly see no basis for those concerns.
