[Marxism] Can a socialist country be Christian - Tiny discussion I stumbled across

In countries belonging to what one can broadly define as the "Western"
popular tradition, most of popular imagery and many of popular
comparisons, arguments, metaphors, and so on, have roots in religion
(Catholics as well as Protestants). This is natural, if one comes to
think about it.
Hugo Chávez, like many other popular leaders (and even scholars -did
we forget Dr. Marx's "Holy Family"?), needs to reach people
ideologically moulded by the society of the past. The language of the
sermons in the Church (and the language of schoolteachers in the
public system: Chávez is son to a couple of elementary school
teachers) is a very vivid and useful tool when trying to reach the
masses.
It is of no avail to wage an Enlightenment battle without the material
conditions for Enlightenment. On the other side, Marxists are
dialectical people, that is they don't consider religious belief as a
"mistake", but as a moment in the development of
philosophical-historical consciousness. If we can win the religious to
our struggle, much the better.
