"The fight is over marriage, and it is also part of the historic fight of the oppressed to democratize marriage -- ending slavery in marriage, sale into marriage, child marriage, arranged marriages, right of women to divorce, and the right of women to control their own bodies."

Those were and are all basically fights AGAINST the institution of marriage, or at least to rein in that institution. None of them were fights to extend marriage into other areas of life.

I'm not for or against gay marriage, except insofar as I'm against marriage as a state-sanctioned institution. I'm AGAINST the fight FOR it and, because of the bigotry involved, I'm doubly against the fight AGAINST it.
