She's NOT "saying that gay rights aren't important". She's saying that this particular gay right -- the right to marriage -- is not important, or at least not important enough for her to defend it at this time, when she had other priorities.

I don't necessarily agree with her, especially her implied support for Obama, even if she doesn't mention him.

She doesn't say in the article how she voted on Prop. 8.

I would put it a bit differently:

1) When there are two opposed political movements, one doesn't necessarily have to support either one.

2) One can and, IMO, should oppose those who actively oppose gay marriage. This does not, however, require one to take an affirmative stand in favor of gay marriage or to support the movement to gain equality-in-marriage laws.
