Actually, I think it's Fred and Walter with the elevated body temperature,
flushed face, unsteady gait, loss of balance, repetitive incoherence that
indicate the permanent loss of motor and cognitive skills associated with
Rapture Syndrome. Rapture Syndrome is contagious, usually transmitted by
air waves.
We have had an historic event-- the election of an African-American as the
chief executive of the bourgeoisie's bodies of armed men and women. And
that is as meaningful and meaningless as that historic event is. Those who
urge others to take the long view, ought to follow their own advice and take
the long view; a long view back as to the origins of the oppresson of
African-Americans, the different historical forms of that oppression, and a
long view forward to the prospects for abolishing those forms has existed
and continues to exist.
We've had historical events of ever greater importance prior to this one.
We had the election of the ANC in South Africa. And taking the long view,
economically and socially, the vast majority of South African people have
not advanced. Poverty has not been reduced. Apartheid is gone. Poverty
not only remains, it grows. Can you think of anything that gives more
pleasure to the apartheidists than that? So much for great historical
events that don't involve the overthrow of those existing social relations
of production. They are, in reality, not so great, not so historical, and
not a vector for "progress."
Let me take this opportunity to comment on the posts regarding Nader's
comments. First, Nader did NOT say what Krsta Keating says he said. What
Nader did say was that Obama had the choice to be either one Uncle or the
other Uncle. What Nader did say was stupid. To the max. That term should
never be used in other than literary analysis of Stowe's novel.
But there is more to Nader's statement, and more that is wrong. Obama faces
no such choice. He has a job to do as chief executive of the bourgeoisie's
chief agency-- and that is to protect and preserve private property; to do
whatever is necessary to reconstitute the mechanism for accumulation. That,
accumulation, is his family. That he is related to by blood. And it will
be other peoples' blood. Just like it will be OPM.
