There are at least 100 references to "Malthus" according to
Google and www.marxists.org. Can you please narrow down my search?
I would think that an 18th century defence of free trade is "liberal"
not "neoliberal".

Dogan:
There is a book by Ronald L. Meek on the relationship of Marx to Malthus.
In search for "Malthus population competition" there will come up what is most important for the issue in question. And "Malthus blue books" and "Malthus Darwin" may be useful.
Engels *Outlines of a Critique of Political Economy* in particular may be very interesting. (http://www.marx.org/archive/marx/works/1844/df-jahrbucher/outlines.htm)

I was trying to say that neoliberalism originates from Malthus not from Smith.
