Correa-Bachelet Penned Joint Declaration in Chile
Havana, March 10 (acn) Ecuadors Rafael Correa and Chiles Michelle
Bachelet penned on Monday a 41 point Joint Declaration in La Moneda
Palace, during a visit of the Ecuadorian head of state to the sister
nation to celebrate President Bachelet´s second year in office.
The document is part of a strategic association between the two South
American countries and is aimed at strengthening economic and commercial
cooperation, and political and social dialogue, reported Prensa Latina.
The declaration also addresses the validity, reach, and content of the
treaties of the South Pacific system signed by Chile, Ecuador, and Peru
in the past; and ratifies the two governments´ common interpretation of
maritime borders.
As part of his agenda, the Ecuadorian top leader met with
representatives of the four government political parties and told them
he is grateful to President Bachelet for her opportune role in finding a
solution to the Ecuador-Colombia conflict during the Rio Group Summit of
March 8 in the Dominican capital.
When asked about the current situation between his country and Colombia,
Correa said that "relations will not be retaken immediately, but
gradually. We have overcome the incident."
Later on, President Correa laid a wreath at the monument erected to
Liberator Bernardo O" Higgins and received the Chilean Merit Order in
the hands of Michelle Bachelet.
During his stay in this South American country, Correa is also expected
to meet with directors from the Supreme Court of Justice, the Senate,
Deputy Chamber, and Santiago Municipality authorities, who will declare
him Illustrious Guest of Santiago.
