Norm Dixon:
"The demand for the right of national self-determination APPLIES ONLY
to oppressed nations. It is a democratic political demand that means
an oppressed nation has the right to determine its political
relationship to the oppressor nation, including the right to secede
and form a separate nation-state."

Michael Karadjis:
"But while many leftists accept this right in theory, some claim it
is LIMITED TO STRUGGLES by oppressed peoples against imperialism, or
at least that it depends on whether a particular struggle for
national self-determination strengthens or weakens imperialist
interests. But this WASN'T HOW LENIN viewed it at all. When he
supported Norway's independence from Sweden it had NO CONNECTION to
either alleged condition."

Louis Proyect:
More progress on the DSP "democratic centralism" front. We now have
two leaders of the DSP disagreeing with each other in public whether
the right to self-determination applies only to oppressed nations or
to all nations, including the rosy-cheeked sardine-eating Norwegian
burghers. Of course, this could be a function of missed
communications down in Oz. I hope nobody ends up in Percyville.
