Devil is in the details, so please tell me in the 1960s what concessions did
the middle classes make to the workers, and on what did the middle class not
concede? And how was it possible when after, 1973, and 1979 when the
bourgeoisie went on the offensive against the workers in response to the
decline in the rate of profit, no such offensive was undertaken against the
Cuban workers?
More detail: What gains have been eroded, and does that mean that prior to
the erosion Cuba was a worker state?
Joint ventures, tourism, yes all that exists and they do have serious
consequences but do those things, in and of themselves, constitute a change
in the class basis of society? If so, does that mean Cuba was a workers
state prior to 1992 and the withdrawal of Soviet support? And if not, and if
the fSU was not a workers state, why, in the fSU, did the pre-existing
economic and political organization require, almost literally, demolition
before capitalism could "blossom" freely?
Speaking of the fSU, does anyone believe that Cuba would have survived
without the material support and protection of the fSU? So does Yossi
believe Cuba was a colony of the imperial USSR? If so, can you show the
export of capital, not from the USSR to Cuba, but its expanded re-export
back to the USSR?
As for wage rates-- the lower rates in Cuba do not mean that Cuban workers
are more exploited than those in Argentina. Recall Marx's COTP-- where
deductions will be made from workers' compensation to support social needs--
education, healthcare, income for those who cannot work, for infants,
elderly-- those things constitute a critical part of the social renumeration
of the class, its social "wage."
