The idea mooted in this Newsweek piece -- that a "bilateral" agreement
between Bush and his Iraqi sock puppet could tie the next president's hands
on Iraq, is --frankly-- stupid and absurd.

The arguments for withdrawing all or close to all forces from Iraq --from a
bourgeois-imperialist point of view-- are quite compelling, especially, that
with anything like this level of commitment in Iraq, the U.S. lacks the
readily deployable forces to intervene elsewhere.

Iraq has quite thoroughly shattered the myth that you can do this sort of
thing with lots of computers and very few boots on the ground, so it isn't
something they can avoid.
