I do question the so-called liberal and progressive base of the Democratic Party. It's not a base. It's not coherent. It's not mobilizing now for much of anybody.
The base of the Democratic Party I was discussing is that which existed in LBJ's day or FDR's. You knows, unions and other groups having meetings for candidates, questinging them face-to-face, arguing among themselves over endorsements, mobilizing the members to back that endorsement. You know, "civics." This does create a certain dialectic within the party, in which the ranks can play some role other than passive consumers.
No online community has ever substituted for that kind of thing.
