I don't think its a secret that many organizers in the sourthern civil  
rights movement were armed. They had to be. But it is certainly not a matter  that 
is talked about a lot. I think I first heard it mentioned by Ralth  
Featherstone in a talk in Berkeley thirty years ago, that carrying arms was one  of the 
issues that split black and northern white activists at the end. Perhaps  so. 
But the left should always support the 2nd  Amendment.
