Hal Draper once wrote an article, later published somewhere and perhaps on  
the net, called What Is To Be Done with What Is To Be Done, that I think  
addresses these issues. The title may not be accurate, because when he showed it  
to me it was only in a typewritten draft back in '68. However it is worth  
looking for.
