I wrote about John Edwards:

What I wrote was "Maybe he's thinking that," but I don't presume to turn that 
"maybe" into a definitely. Jon evidently thinks himself a better mind-reader 
than I do. In either case, however, you "position yourself" as a candidate based 
on what you say and do, not on what someone may think you are thinking but not 
saying out loud. And, I repeat, Edwards is not "positioning himself" as the 
white male candidate. He is "positioning himself" as the pro-labor, 
anti-corporate candidate.
