I don't think we can ruloe anything out completely, but Nader says little in the article that many of us haven't said. This is typical of the efforts to muddy the message. Note how little time they spent in covering the issues that Nader wanted to raise.
Edwards decided to stake out the traditional "liberal-progressive" stance within the party, raising issues like health care and the failure of the Democratic Party to mount a positive opposition to Bush over things like the war. I suspect that he rather backed into that, though his wife's cancer surely encouraged him to look at the question differently than his colleagues might.
Saying this does not mean you "support" them.
In the end, I don't think Edwards has a greater chance than the far more distant contenders. Looks like Billary and O'Bomberl. It was as close to Maggie Thatcher and an Tiger Woods as the Democratic Party could manage.
