Paul Cockshot's note on modern navies is interesting,
and in the right direction, but a little bit off the
mark. The 21st century equivalent of the battle fleets
of 1904 resides in nuclear weaponry, seagoing and
otherwise. Among the countries with nukes, only those
with fusion weapons can really be counted as having
imperiailist military might. India, Pakistan, China
and Israel don't cut the mustard, in other words.
However - at least by this measure - Russia does, as
well as France and the UK and everybody's favorite
hegemon, the USA. Colombia and the Sudan do not, and
neither do those other imperialist powers like Chad
and Bolivia.
