(Both campaigns are now focusing intensely on those 796 insiders
--Congress members, governors, state party chairs and DNC members
from each state -- who could play kingmaker at a competitive
convention. Those super delegates are free to vote for the candidate
of their choice, regardless of the outcome of nomination contests in
their states.
("It is a behind-the-scenes campaign that is far different than the
lofty discussions of healthcare and global warming that punctuate the
public debate, focusing instead on the specific political needs of
each undecided super delegate.)

COMMENT: They're busy wheeling and dealing in the backrooms. Nothing
really changes, does it? This is the system which they want to impose
on Cuba and, of course, on the rest of the world as the only model.
Cuba isn't mentioned in the article, and on the grand scale Cuba is a
small issue in the United States. But what happens in the United
States is of the greatest importance to Cuba, so it's important to
see what is going on in this milieu, and to try to understand it.
Over in the GOP, the ultra-right thinks McCain isn't ultra-rightist
enough, so he'll have to try to become even more reactionary to try
to draw the most rightist of them into his presidential operation.
