[Marxism] A letter to the CP's newspaper

Louis: "Get the Red Army together and take over D.C.? That's what complaining about Rick Warren amounts to in the screwy world of the CP and their supporters, I guess."

As is well known, I'm no supporter of Obama, but I think you're missing a bit of the point here, Louis. Rick Warren was the straw that broke the camel's back. There wouldn't have been nearly as much complaining from liberals about Warren had he not been preceded by Gates, Clinton, Jones, etc. etc.

And while I'm on the subject of Obama, I have to take issue with that idea that was expressed here by Fred a few days ago:

"Some on the list think it takes colossal courage to denounce Obama in unbridled terms today. But no left critics of Obama are hanging from lampposts. None are being outlawed or jailed or suppressed in any way."

No, no critic of Obama is "hanging from a lamppost" or in jail, nor was any critic of Bush (although plenty no doubt had their phones tapped). But if you don't think it takes courage to "denounce" Obama (personally I prefer the formulation "tell the truth about" Obama), you must not be working in any antiwar coalition, or have coworkers, or family members who aren't exclusively leftists. Because telling the truth about Obama is definitely a source of alienation from all those groups, all of whom probably included many who were enthusiastic about Obama, and who had a hard time listening to anyone trying to break down the illusions and speaking the truth. Fortunately (so to speak), Obama's actions (appointments) are starting to reveal his true nature, although one still faces the "you can't criticize him before he's in office, he hasn't even done anything yet" line of "reasoning" (as if making an appointment is not an action).
