Difficult, getting "out," may be, but certainly not impossible, and

Malaysia after all did exactly that during the "Asian" crises of 1997-1998;
Argentina did something even more radical and blasphemous in the eyes of
finance capital, by defaulting on its debt.

Both have experienced little in the way of retaliation.

C'mon, Art. You've shown you can do better than this. Debt default and
exchange controls are common expedients which capitalist states employ to
cope with temporary crises. They're not in any way a declaration of
independence from the global capitalist economy. At worst, the offenders are
sent off to the penalty box for a brief period of time while rash foreign
investors take a haircut. That's how the system works. Then capital flows
resume driven by the underlying economic fundamentals. As you note,
Argentina and Malaysia have long been back in the game and attracting
foreign capital. They haven't gotten out or been forced out, nor do they
want to be. It's like saying that homeowners who are delinquent or in
default on their mortgages have found a way to function independently of the
capitalist system. If only.
