It is very hard to imagine this Georgian initiative WITHOUT a U.S.
pledge of support or some calculation by the Georgians that the U.S. would
be forced to take their side. It is a very small country (pop: 4.6 million)
and moreover I believe they depend on Russia for energy. Russia can shut
them down militarily and economically.
