No doubt there is a spike in demand right now but one wonders if 
anyone in Chinese Communist Party is wondering about the downside 
of giving up economic planning.
According to the report the workers thought they were "simply 
making colorful flags" until someone checked on the internet. At 
this point the workers alerted the police.

I have noticed lately that the Tibetan partisans protesting the 
Olympic torch relay have been outnumbered by large numbers of 
counter-protesters waving the red banner of the PRC. Among the 
"Free Tibet" contingents are often the flags of the Republic of 
Vietnam ("Free South Vietnam?"). One wonders if all these flags are 
being produced in the same factory in Guangdong  
province.
