Nineteen sixty-eight was a formative year for the left. The feminist,
civil rights, and antiwar movements mobilized the idealism of many.
But there were also many political disappointments: the Kennedy and
King assassinations, the Soviet crackdown in Prague, the Chicago
riots.
Dissent editors invite you to our Spring 2008 issue launch, "1968:
Legacy and Lessons" at Book Culture (536 West 112th Street, between
Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues) on May 1, 7:00 p.m. Editors and
contributors Marshall Berman, Mitchell Cohen, Ann Snitow, and Michael
Walzer will contemplate that tumultuous year--and its significance for
today's left.
The event is free and open to the public, and there will be wine,
cheese, and schmoozing after the talk.
